13/11/2016 - One more medal match at the European Championships 5th place finish for Emilie Sook

In the weekend the Danish Judo Team particiated at the U23 European Championships in Tel Aviv, Israel.

A very well organized competition in a fantastic place, the crowd in the sports hall was amazing and the stands were full in both days, a great atmosphere to compete in.

Competition started friday the 11th with the small weights and here Anja Lunding came on the mat in the -52kg category, she met Russian fighter Pashina, after dominating the fight up until the end always putting in the stronger attacks, Anja got caught with 20 seconds to go and unfortunately was sent early out of the competition.

On Saturday the heavier weights, Emilie Sook took the mat in the 70kg category and finished up 5th after going 3-2 on the day. She started the day with two strong performances against Ukraine and home particpant Israel, and in the quarter final she met long time rival Samardzic from Bosnia, a very tactical fight that took both to golden score, and a mistake cost Emilie a place in the semi final. In the repechage Emilie came strong and defeated Italy to get a place in the bronze match.

A few hours after the final block was ready to begin and Emilie was to face Teltsidou from Greece (previous 2nd at European Championships) again here 4 min of intense fighting with Emilie putting a lot of work and coming close to a score several times with yoko-tomoe and sode-tsuri unfortunately was not enough and Emilie finishes with a 5th place at the U23 European Championships 2016.

Congratiolations to both for a professional preparation and work done towards these championships.

Best regards, Miguel Lopes - Head Coach
